Adel S. Sedra Distinguished Graduate Award
Awards of Excellence
Established by the University of Toronto Alumni Association in honour of Professor Adel S. Sedra, former Vice-President and Provost of the University of Toronto, the Adel S. Sedra Distinguished Graduate Award recognizes exceptional doctoral students who combine outstanding academic achievement with demonstrated leadership and engagement beyond their scholarly pursuits. Open to domestic and international doctoral students in the second or third year of their program (or third or fourth year of a direct-entry doctorate), the award celebrates Sedra's enduring commitment to enhancing the graduate student experience and advancing U of T's excellence in teaching and research.
Beginning with the 2027-28 award year, two fellowships of up to $15,000 are awarded annually, one to a student in the Humanities or Social Sciences and one to a student in the Physical or Life Sciences. Up to two additional finalists receive a $1,000 UTAA Graduate Scholar prize in recognition of their achievements.
