As Canada heads into 2026, its economy stands at a crossroads shaped by global competition, shifting trade patterns, new government priorities, and the ongoing challenge of improving productivity. Understanding these forces, and how they intersect, will be key to navigating the year ahead.
Join the Rotman School of Management on Wednesday, January 14, for an in-depth conversation with some of Canada’s most respected economists. In conversation, they’ll unpack the major themes and uncertainties influencing the national and global outlook, and explore what they mean for businesses, investors, and policymakers.
About the speakers:
Frances Donald is RBC's Chief Economist, leading economic analyses that inspire informed decision-making. A leading voice sought by clients, government leaders, and media across North America, she's recognized for effectively communicating complex economics to wide audiences. She frequently speaks publicly and appears on Bloomberg and CNBC. Frances holds a Bachelor of Economics from Queen's University and a master's in economics from NYU.
Jeremy M. Kronick is Vice-President, Economic Analysis and Strategy at the C.D. Howe Institute, directing its Centre on Financial and Monetary Policy. His research covers demographics, monetary policy effectiveness, housing markets, and financial innovation. Winner of the 2023 Doug Purvis Memorial Prize, he previously worked at Deloitte & Touche LLP, Bank of Canada, and taught at Brandeis University. He holds degrees from Queen's University, University of Toronto, and a PhD from Brandeis University.
Millan Mulraine (MBA '24) is Chief Economist at Ontario Teachers', leading the Global Macro Insights Group to provide thought-leadership on global economic policy, and geopolitical issues. Previously Deputy Chief US Economist at TD Securities, he's passionate about DEI in finance, leading the Multicultural@Teachers' Employee Resource Group. He serves on boards including George Brown College and VersaFi. Millan holds degrees from University of West Indies, Warwick, Toronto (PhD), and an Executive MBA from Rotman.
About the moderator:
Christine Dobby is an award-winning journalist who covers finance and banking for Bloomberg News in Toronto and writes the weekly email newsletter Bay Street Edition. She has reported on Canadian business since 2010 and has held staff positions at the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail and Financial Post. Christine has a history degree from McGill University, a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and practised family law before pursuing a masters in journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University.
