Barbara Dick
Assistant Vice-President, Alumni Relations
University of Toronto

cordially invites you to a dinner and thought-provoking presentation by

Professor Jooyoung Lee
Centre for the Study of the United States, Munk School of Global Affairs
Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts & Science
University of Toronto

What is it like to get shot and almost die?  While much of our popular media focuses on fatal mass shootings in America, many more people suffer from non-fatal gunshot wounds each year. In this talk, Professor Lee will discuss the people he's met throughout his research that have suffered near-fatal gunshot wound injuries. Their stories will help us understand the routine and existential challenges of the living wounded, the need for more extensive health care support for the vulnerable, and the trauma of living in contexts where daily life is filled with risk to life and limb.

Note: This presentation will be preceded by an information session for prospective students interested in learning more about the University of Toronto. 10th, 11th and 12th-grade high school students are encouraged to attend with their families. For more information on the session, please email student.recruitment@utoronto.ca. Feel free to share this invitation with anyone who may be interested in this opportunity!

Prof. Lee's presentation is part of an ongoing series of compelling lectures for alumni, hosted in cities around the world. U of T Where You Are brings the university right into your community, keeping you informed, inspired and connected.
