Peter Rekai
2018 winner of the Carl Mitchell Award for Community Engagement
Peter Rekai (BA 1976 Trinity) is the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Rekai Centres and has served as a volunteer since 2004. The original Rekai Centre was Toronto’s first multilingual, non-profit nursing home. Today, the Centres are long-term care homes regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. They continue to focus on the unique multicultural needs of some of Toronto's most vulnerable residents.
Though busy with his “day job” as a barrister and solicitor specializing in immigration law, Peter has a sustained record of championing high-quality, accessible long-term care. His engaging leadership has attracted countless volunteers of all backgrounds and skill sets. Peter’s vision and dedication has also produced numerous synergistic partnerships, allowing the Rekai Centres to incorporate leading-edge innovations into resident care.
