Designed for high school students, Daniels' summer program provides a comprehensive introduction to architecture and explores different ways of seeing, thinking and making.
The Daniels faculty offers two 2-week courses in both July and August for ages 14 to 18.
Course 1 – Drawing Practices
In this two‑week architecture intensive, high school students develop drawing skills to communicate design ideas rooted in a specific site. The course introduces design representation, site analysis, and architectural tools such as drawing, photography, and basic 3D software. Students share work, receive feedback, and build confidence in visual communication.
Course 2 – Model Making
This two‑week intensive introduces high school students to architectural model making as a way to explore and express design ideas. Students learn to translate concepts into physical form using drawing, 3D modeling and hands‑on construction, creating models that respond to site context and personal interests.
Course 3 – Portfolio Building
New this year, in this two‑week intensive course, high school students create an introductory portfolio to showcase their creative work. The course covers layout, organization, documentation and clear project descriptions, using industry‑standard software. Students also visit a design firm and hear from practicing designers.
