COVID has challenged our assumptions about everything - from how and where we work to how we adapt as leaders to this new working reality. In this talk, Professor David Zweig will discuss how traditional approaches to leadership and our notions of leadership as control are an illusion and doomed to fail. Professor Zweig will discuss how leaders can adapt their leadership styles to our new reality of remote work, move away from a culture of dissatisfaction and distrust, and shape new cultures that are aligned with a re-ignited interest for meaningful work.

David Zweig is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management and Past Chair (2011-2020) and Graduate Chair (2018-2020) of the Department of Management at the University of Toronto Scarborough. He also holds a cross-appointment to the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Professor Zweig teaches courses in Organizational Behaviour and Leadership and conducts research is in the areas of employee deviance, specifically examining knowledge hiding and knowledge theft in organizations, employee cynicism, and employee surveillance. His research has been published in top management journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Organizational Behavior and Personnel Psychology and has received widespread international media attention. He won ‘best paper’ awards for his work on knowledge hiding and knowledge theft in organizations, has delivered a TEDx talk on workplace deviance and, and is sought out speaker on culture change, leadership, and how to break the cycle of deviance in organizations.
