SHAKER Ed - Exploring the Roots of the Vine

Explore the antiquity and history of one of the most commonly enjoyed alcoholic beverages, wine.

A horn wine glass, wooden goblet, pewter goblet, silver goblet, modern wine glass half-filled with red wine.

Wine is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in the world today. But what do we know about its history? Archeologist Stephen Batiuk will trace its origins from the neolithic period to the ancient Near East and eventually, across the entire Mediterranean world. Join other young alumni for a tasteful tour of an influential chapter in world history. Admission includes:

  • Presentation by Professor Stephen Batiuk, Senior Lecturer, Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations, University of Toronto
  • Guided wine tasting led by Christopher Sealy (BA 1999 NEW), Head Sommelier at Alo Restaurant (non-alcoholic tasting option available)
  • Light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages

This is a 19+ event.
