cordially invite you to a reception and thought-provoking presentation by

Professor Lisa Austin
Chair in Law and Technology
Faculty of Law
University of Toronto

The Future of Privacy and the Limits of Individual Control

The global dialogue on privacy regulation often centers on providing individual consent and control over personal information. However, this 20th century paradigm is increasingly under strain when applied to the complexities of the global data economy. Professor Austin will examine some of the general critiques of the individual control model of privacy and discuss why developing alternative models requires interdisciplinary work that integrates the insights and tools of disciplines like law, engineering, and computer science.

Drawing upon the work being done by the IT3 Lab at the University of Toronto, she will discuss the transparency of mobile app privacy policies and what kind of infrastructures can be developed to ensure transparent and accountable data sharing.

Prof. Austin's presentation is part of an ongoing series of compelling lectures for alumni, hosted in cities around the world. U of T Where You Are brings the university right into your community, keeping you informed, inspired and connected.
