Older adults represent 16.1% of our current population, but they also represent 40% of hospital admissions and 60% of overnight hospitals stays across Canada every year. While they represent the hospital system's greatest users, it is clear that while the users have changed, our system has not.

Hospital systems were designed 50 years ago when the average Canadian was 27 years old. The systems have not yet adapted to meet the needs of the growing number of older patients with increasingly complex needs.

In this talk, Prof. Sinha will discuss his developments and research around new effective ways to care for older adults under the banner of Acute Care for Elders ("ACE" strategy), a collaborative aimed at supporting elder-friendly models of care and practices.

Prof. Sinha's presentation is part of an ongoing series of compelling lectures for alumni, hosted in cities around the world. U of T Where You Are brings the University right into your community. Stay informed, inspired and connected, because together we are boundless.
