Alan Taylor is an award-winning director, screenwriter and producer. He graduated with high honors from the University of Toronto, received an MA in Modern European History from Columbia University, and an MFA in film studies from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. His NYU thesis film, That Burning Question, received various accolades and launched his career in film and television.
His film, Palookaville, received the award for Best First Feature at the Venice Film Festival. Other films include: The Emperor’s New Clothes, Kill the Poor, Thor: The Dark World, Terminator Genisys and The Many Saints of Newark, a prequel to the Sopranos series.
In television, Taylor won an Emmy for directing the Sopranos and a DGA award for the pilot of Madmen. He has directed episodes of Homicide: Life On the Street, Oz, West Wing, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, Carnivale, Deadwood, Lost, Rome, Big Love, Bored To Death and Boardwalk Empire. He was a recurring director and Executive Producer on HBO’s Game of Thrones, as well as the follow-up series, House of the Dragon.
Taylor most recently directed and executive produced “Interview With The Vampire” for AMC, based on the beloved novel by Anne Rice. He is currently developing projects for film and television, including Gold Mountain, a feature starring Michelle Yeoh, set within the bridetrade of the Gold Rush years.
Taylor resides in Brooklyn and in rural Pennsylvania, with his three children and a rescued dog named Nasa.
