Measha Brueggergosman

Bachelor of Music in Performance (MUSP) 1999

Measha Brueggergosman is an internationally-renowned soprano who is respected as both a classical music sensation and contemporary singer.  The 1999 U of T music grad quickly became an international star on the world opera stage, performing solo recitals at Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall and the Kennedy Center.

Brueggergosman is a Juno Award winner and was nominated for a Grammy in 2011. She performed the Olympic Hymn at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics – a performance that was watched by more than 3.2 billion viewers worldwide.

Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Brueggergosman came to U of T to study music under the guidance of Mary Morrison, a renowned soprano and professor. Upon graduation, her career rapidly gained momentum, with her charisma, dramatic ability and powerful voice, placing her in demand both in concert and on the operatic stage.

U of T remains central to Brueggergosman’s life. Despite graduating over a decade ago, she remains a semi-regular on campus, where she has attended advanced voice lessons.

In 2009, she returned to Fredericton to launch the New Brunswick chapter of Learning Through the Arts, an international non-profit organization that develops arts-based lesson plans and curriculum for elementary and secondary schools.

"I am a product of arts education, of music in schools. I can still remember the names of every French immersion teacher I had in elementary school."

In addition to Learning Through the Arts, Brueggergosman lends her voice, passion and energy to social and environmental causes as a good will ambassador to the African Medical and Research Foundation and the World Wildlife Fund.
