The Management Data and Analytics Lab is a core teaching and research resource at the Rotman School of Management, providing facilities and expertise in data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The lab supports interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, students, and industry partners to advance analytics-driven insights and decision-making.
The academic program for this event has been curated by Opher Baron, Distinguished Professor of Operations Management at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

Synopsis:
The Sandra Rotman Centre for Health Sector Strategy and the Management Data and Analytics Lab will host the 9th Annual Research Roundtable on Data Analytics in Healthcare on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Desautels Hall, Rotman School of Management, from 8:00 AM to 6:05 PM.
This annual research roundtable brings together leading scholars, clinicians, policymakers, and industry experts to explore how data analytics and operational research can support meaningful improvements across healthcare systems. As healthcare delivery increasingly relies on complex networks of organizations, technologies, and people, advanced analytics plays a critical role in improving decision-making, system performance, and patient outcomes.
The program will feature presentations from leading experts whose research addresses key challenges in healthcare operations, policy, and system performance. Topics will include healthcare system optimization, analytics-driven decision-making, and strategies for improving access, efficiency, and quality of care.
The event will feature a keynote presentation by Michael Carter, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto and Founding Director of the Centre for Healthcare Engineering. Professor Carter is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in healthcare resource modelling and has contributed significantly to the advancement of analytics-driven approaches to healthcare operations.
A featured panel discussion on Emergency Department Flow and Wait-Time Improvement will bring together leading experts including Mason Leschyna, Chief Quality Officer at Erie Shores Healthcare and Emergency Physician; Howard Ovens, Provincial Emergency Department Clinical Lead for Ontario; and Avi Seidmann, Everett W. Lord Distinguished Faculty Scholar of Information Systems at the Boston University Questrom School of Business.
The roundtable will feature more than sixteen speakers presenting research that advances the role of analytics in improving healthcare delivery and system performance. Participants will include researchers, healthcare leaders, policymakers, and industry partners committed to advancing data-driven solutions for healthcare challenges.
