Rotman Commerce Leadership Award honours the memory of Ramesh Kashyap, a proud alum and dedicated mentor
By Coby Zucker

The Ramesh Kashyap Leadership Award honours the memory of Rotman Commerce alum Ramesh Kashyap.
Ramesh Kashyap (B Comm 1995) was a dedicated and proud Rotman Commerce alum, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1995 as a member of Victoria College.
As well as his full-time career as managing director at Ninepoint Partners LP, Kashyap was deeply committed to giving back to his alma mater. He found immense joy in mentoring summer students as they embarked on their career journeys.
Following his passing, Kashyap’s colleagues at the close-knit investment firm in Toronto sought a meaningful way to honour his legacy, including his passion for helping students, by creating a scholarship.
The Ramesh Kashyap Leadership Award, established with a gift of $125,000 from Ninepoint Partners LP was matched by the Faculty of Arts & Science. It will advance excellence in undergraduate business education and nurture future leaders, recognizing Kashyap’s commitment to mentoring and helping students.
Honouring a legacy
“We see this endowment as a thoughtful way to carry on Ramesh’s legacy. Helping future leaders was something he really liked to do, particularly as they were entering the industry and navigating the learning curve,” says James Fox, co-CEO of Ninepoint, and a Rotman School of Management graduate. “This award reflects his leadership, commitment to hiring the best within his team and his association with, and passion for, the University of Toronto.”
Rotman Commerce and the Faculty of Arts & Science are truly grateful for this endowment that invests in student success.
“It's heartening to know this award will honour the memory of a dedicated and driven alum like Ramesh,” says Melanie Woodin, president-designate of the University of Toronto and dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science. “These kinds of opportunities create a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful to the generous donors who enable us to further our commitment to supporting our exceptional students.”
For the business leaders of tomorrow
The award will support Rotman Commerce undergraduate students who are exemplary leaders in the community, demonstrating the same leadership that was fundamental to Kashyap. Awards such as the Ramesh Kashyap Leadership Award encourage and celebrate student civic engagement. They celebrate the profound impact these inspiring young leaders will continue to have in their communities.
"It feels great to have Ramesh’s name carried forward and associated with students that will go on and do positive things in the industry," says Fox. "For his family, including his daughter and son, his colleagues, and friends, it's a source of immense pride to see his name linked to such a prestigious university and the excellent students it fosters.”
