Mental health is the bedrock for strong academic outcomes and an essential determinant of overall lifetime well-being. Yet mental health concerns and psychological distress among post-secondary students is increasing and demand for services is steeply rising. In response to this, UofT is transforming its approach to student mental health and well-being – informed by research evidence. Through the Inlight Student Mental Health Research Initiative, UofT is poised to make substantial gains in a mental wellness approach. Professor Cleverley will discuss how Inlight is leveraging U of T’s research expertise to drive innovation through research that will benefit not only our community, but students across Canada and the globe.

Professor Kristin Cleverley is an internationally renowned expert on student and youth mental health. She holds the CAMH Chair of Mental Health Nursing Research, is an Associate Professor at the Lawrence S Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is also a Senior Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and currently holds an Ontario Early Researcher Award, a Connaught Global Challenge Award, and is the principal or co-investigator on over $35 million in grant funds. As director of the Inlight Student Mental Health Research Initiative, Prof. Cleverley is instrumental in leveraging U of T’s research expertise, setting priorities and driving change that will benefit not only our community, but students across Canada and the globe.
