Title: Communication Vulnerability in the ICU
Speaker: Dr. Laura Istanboulian
Biography: Dr. Laura Istanboulian is an Assistant Professor in the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto and a Clinician Scientist and Nurse Practitioner at the Provincial Centre for Excellence in Prolonged and Long-term Ventilation at Michael Garron Hospital. She leads a research program focused on nursing interventions to improve access to safe and equitable care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and across the critical care continuum. Her doctoral research focused on a bundled communication toolkit for patients who require mechanical ventilation in the ICU.
As part of her international research approach, Dr. Istanboulian is currently involved in several Canadian and Global research groups, including one led by leading Australian and UK reseachers that is exploring global priorities related to communication research in the ICU, including the needs of patients, family caregivers, and healthcare providers.
