Parents play an enormous role in their children's sport experiences, and the vast majority of parents have a positive influence on the lives of young athletes. However, some athletes report that parental pressure and negative parent behaviours can be stressful and lead to negative sport experiences. Parents also face their own challenges and stress in relation to their child's sport participation.
In this presentation, Prof. Tamminen will discuss recent research findings on athletes' stress and coping in youth sport. She will share tips for parents to help their child deal with stress in sport, and strategies for dealing with 'the car ride home' after games and practices.
