U of T alumni and friends are invited to a presentation on

Scraping the Surface - Beetle Hunting in Central America

by

U of T alumnus Dr. Robert Anderson (BSc 1979)
Research Scientist, Zoology, Canadian Museum of Nature

As a coleopterist, nothing gets Dr. Robert Anderson's heart racing like news of successful field trips in which rare or new species of beetles were caught. An expert in the weevil family, Dr. Anderson's 30-year career has included a range of fieldwork in exotic and often dangerous locales. His work on beetles has been used in identifying hotspots of biodiversity in conservation planning and in work on endangered species.

Join Dr. Anderson as he recounts some of his most exciting journeys across Latin America. He will share results from the Leaf Litter Arthropods of MesoAmerica (LLAMA) project (2008-2011), funded by the National Science Foundation and involving 40 students and scientists from 5 Central American countries, and review some of the exciting new beetle discoveries made during the project that suggest we are really just scraping the surface of insect diversity.

Your alumni representative and event organizer, Julie Polisena (MS 2006), will be there to welcome you. If you have any questions about this event you can email Julie at jpolis22@hotmail.com.
