The Arbor Awards are the University of Toronto’s highest honour in recognition of exceptional and longstanding volunteer service. We are proud to present our 2025 recipients.
About our recipients
Arbor Award recipients are essential to advancing the University of Toronto as one of the world’s great institutions of higher learning and advanced research. These leading members of the U of T community elevate all facets of life at the university, providing volunteer supports that span everything from governance and academic programming to experiential learning and mentorship, among other valuable contributions. We congratulate our 2025 Arbor Award recipients who have given so generously of their time, energy and expertise and invite you to read about their individual acts of service.
Francesco Aiello
Frank has been a valued volunteer with Woodsworth College’s Alumni-Students Mentorship Program since 2021. As part of this intensive one-on-one mentorship program, Frank generously shares his time, experience and insights with students, helping to set them up for success after graduation. His commitment and impact also extend to improving the program itself, as he conscientiously provides valuable feedback each year to organizers, enhancing our ability to address the changing needs of students. Frank has also given his time as a mentor with the University of Toronto Women’s Student Association.
Faiza Ali
Faiza has actively contributed to the Speech-Language Pathology Alumni Association for over seven years. With her exceptional leadership and organizational skills, she has delivered several demanding, key initiatives, including full-cycle planning for the annual fall graduation ceremony. Faiza also organized the J.F. Walker Lecture Series event for students and alumni and edited and delivered several semi-annual newsletters. Through these and many other contributions, she has strengthened alumni relations and enhanced the visibility of the rehabilitation sector. She has been serving as co-president of the SLP Alumni Association since 2022.
Amma Anaman
Amma is an esteemed partner for the Faculty of Law who has played an outsized role in strengthening alumni and student programming. She is a valued mentor and supporter of Black Future Lawyers, and this past year sat on a distinguished panel to discuss Women in Law. Amma always stands ready to support the faculty, whether it’s as a guest speaker, panelist or advisor to the Dean's Academic Plan, and is highly respected by students.
Greg Anderson
Dr. Anderson brings decades of clinical and teaching expertise to his role as an admissions volunteer at U of T Dentistry. Greg’s balanced, student-focused approach upholds the faculty's standards of excellence in the selection of future oral health professionals. After practising for over 20 years in Northern Ontario, Greg re-engaged with his alma mater as a part-time clinical instructor. Now an assistant professor, he is deeply committed to shaping the next generation of skilled, ethical practitioners.
Randall Baran-Chong
For a remarkable 16 years, Randall has made a tremendous difference for students at Rotman Commerce and across the University of Toronto. His volunteer efforts include participating in the Rotman Commerce Alumni Mentorship Program, offering students invaluable wisdom and practical advice. As an extension of when he was president of the Rotman Commerce Students' Association, Randall has mentored student leaders, participated in numerous panels, and advised on programs to support Rotman Commerce students as they begin their professional journeys. Furthermore, Randall's commitment extends across the University of Toronto, with dedicated participation in several mentorship programs and panels including Trinity College and the Faculty of Arts & Science.
Gordon Beal
Gord’s passion for education and extensive volunteerism at the university includes a six-year term on the U of T Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. During this time he served in a pivotal role as chair of the UTAA’s mentorship committee, a valuable and impactful UTAA initiative that brings together mentorship programs from across three U of T campuses. Gord also served as a member of the Moss Scholarship Selection Committee and on the review panel for the university’s prestigious Pearson Scholarships for five years.
Anne-Marie L. Beaudet
Dr. Beaudet, a diagnostic radiologist has been a committed volunteer with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine since 2021. As a mentor with the MD student–alumni mentorship program, she works one-on-one with Med students, providing guidance about the field of medicine and helping build professional networks. Consistently praised for her warmth and insight, Anne-Marie has made a tremendous difference in the personal and professional lives of her mentees, and is a pillar for the program as a whole.
Rosie Bell
Rosie has been a passionate supporter of aspiring mental health professionals at Victoria University. Through the Victoria Alumni Mentorship and Vic Ready programs, Rosie has worked with students and young alumni interested in following in her footsteps in social work and psychotherapy. She also generously hosted a wellness seminar in 2022 in which she shared techniques and advice with young Vic alumni about self-care and mental health, helping them to build self-awareness and resilience.
Catherine Berka
Since 2016, Catherine has contributed her time and expertise as a volunteer with the forestry program at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. In addition to her hands-on involvement in urban ravine research and restoration, Catherine has mentored and trained volunteers and students from U of T and other universities. Project collaborations with other faculties and disciplines such as Engineering, Policy and Anthropology have helped deepen our understanding of how different skill sets and perspectives can enhance natural area restoration. These contributions, along with her support for fundraising and community engagement, make Catherine a valued champion for our students and Urban Forestry Research at Daniels.
Alice J. Bhyat
Dr. Bhyat has supported graduate students for over five years as part of the expansive mentorship program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Along with her generous contributions as a mentor, Alice demonstrates her ongoing dedication to the program by attending and engaging in professional development sub-events. In 2023, her commitment to OISE deepened further as she joined the alumni association, diligently serving at all quarterly meetings as a member at large.
Daniel T. Bowyer
Dan's volunteer impact at U of T spans decades and campuses. At the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, he is a mentor and member at large of the alumni association and represents OISE on the College of Electors. Dan is also a longtime supporter of U of T Scarborough, serving as a mentor, member of campus council and director of UTSC’s alumni association. Across all these roles, Dan is generous with his ideas, time and energy, making a powerful difference for our community.
Edward Boyd
Ted has been a champion for the Renewal and Expansion Campaign at Innis College since 2019. As a cabinet member and an alum, he has been integral to the campaign’s success, helping foster relationships with donors and other stakeholders with his warmth and blend of leadership, philanthropic commitment and strategic insight. Ted also generously shared his thoughts with Innis’s Alumni & Friends Magazine, reflecting on the importance of community and the impact of the expansion for future students.
Alexandra C. Brown
Alexie is a standout volunteer for the Faculty of Information Alumni Association. As co-chair for Master of Museum Studies, she has engaged alumni and students through fun and interesting events such as trivia nights and panel discussions. Alexie also helped promote Museum Studies by mounting a pop-up exhibit in honour of the program’s 50th anniversary. Furthermore, she was instrumental in fielding a survey of museum studies alumni to help guide the alumni association's mission.
Liane Catalfo
Liane’s volunteer leadership with U of T Engineering has strengthened student and alumni engagement and advanced the faculty’s strategic goals. Her roles have included membership on the Engineering Alumni Network Board, including a term as president, as well as representing alumni on the Executive Committee of Faculty Council and at the U of T Alumni Association Council of Presidents. Liane also made a guest appearance on a podcast hosted by the dean of engineering.
Amanda Chan
Amanda is a proud Rotman Commerce alumna and a committed mentor for the school’s alumni mentorship program since 2016. She has always been exceptionally generous in sharing her time and experience to support students as they navigate their academic and professional journeys. In addition to this ongoing role, Amanda previously contributed to the Rotman Commerce Alumni Advisor Network, testifying to her deep commitment to giving back and fostering the growth of future business leaders.
Ann Y.K. Choi
An accomplished writer and educator, Ann is a warm and committed resource for students interested in the publishing industry. She generously mentors students through the Backpack to Briefcase and Job Shadow programs in the Faculty of Arts and Science, often remaining in touch beyond the scope of the programs. Ann also supports mentees by bringing them together to help build their networks, and has supported the publication of an anthology involving U of T students and alumni.
Jeremy Choi
Jeremy is a committed mentor for students pursuing a Master of Professional Kinesiology degree. He is part of the placement program, in which students gain valuable, hands-on experience working with professional, Olympic, and high-performance athletes. Jeremy’s intensive mentorship fosters growth in areas such as athletic development, sports science, exercise prescription, communications, and leadership.

Elina Chow-Clark
Elina is a driving force for innovation at U of T Scarborough. As Entrepreneur in Residence, she has inspired and educated young entrepreneurs with invaluable services that include mentorship, guest lecturing, launching a speaker’s series and advising on student projects and curriculum development, among other contributions. As part of her work, Elina has forged close partnerships with The BRIDGE accelerator and the Sam Ibrahim Centre, enhancing her effectiveness as part of the growing innovation ecosystem in the Eastern GTA.
Susanna L. Chow
Dr. Chow is profoundly grateful for her education at U of T Dentistry and driven by a deep desire to give back. Her generous support includes educating students as a clinical instructor, serving on the dental school’s Defy Gravity campaign cabinet, interviewing prospective DDS students as a volunteer with the admissions committee and serving as a faculty member of the University Tribunal and Hearing Officer, Code of Student Conduct. Susanna’s extraordinary service reflects a lifelong connection to the university and a commitment to supporting the next generation of oral health professionals.
Hujma U. Chowdhury
Hujma has been a stalwart champion for the Faculty of Information Alumni Association. As chair of the Grants and Awards Committee, she has engaged with students to promote and award student conference grants, and she also oversaw two prestigious awards—the annual Outstanding Alumni Award and the Wendy Newman Library Leadership Award. Hujma has also been a highly engaged member of the Social Events Committee, regularly volunteering to support a rich assortment of events.
Dawoon Chung
Dawoon has been a dedicated and inspiring mentor in the Rotman Commerce Alumni Mentorship Program for 13 years. His commitment to supporting the next generation of professionals also includes serving as a mentor in the Rotman Commerce Finance Accelerator program. Dawoon’s passion for mentorship reflects a deep commitment to student growth and development, not only making a tremendous difference for the students he supports but also inspiring other alumni to give back to Rotman Commerce.
Brianna Clendinning
Brianna has served on the U of T Mississauga Alumni Association board of directors since the spring of 2019. During this time, she also served on the board's nominations committee, helping to select future board members as well as recipients of Arbor Awards and the UTM Alumni Awards of Distinction. As a deeply engaged member of the alumni association board, Brianna has also supported UTM's alumni engagement strategies in pursuit of campaign goals.
Bridget Collings
Bridget has been a driving force for the Faculty of Information Alumni Association. As co-chair for Master of Museum Studies alumni. Bridget’s initiatives include organizing panel discussions, conducting a survey among museum graduates to help shape the alumni association's mission, and planning fun events such as trivia nights. Bridget also led the way in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the museum studies program in 2019, with a pop-up exhibit detailing its fascinating history.
Jonathan D. Cook
Dr. Cook is a dedicated mentor in the Woodsworth College Alumni-Students Mentorship program, which is an intensive one-on-one, year-long mentorship commitment. Students have greatly benefitted from Jonathan's thoughtful guidance and openness in sharing his experiences and learnings. As part of his extraordinary commitment, Jonathan mentors at least one and sometimes two students each year who are interested in the medical field, with his insights providing much-needed support as students map out their career paths after graduation.
Artur Cortez Bellotti de Oliveira
Artur has volunteered in different ways since graduating from the Master of Management Analytics program in 2020. He has been an incredible champion for the program's practicum project and was a company host with Deloitte. As a supervisor, he provided the right balance of support and freedom, encouraging students to explore new ideas and showcasing their work to senior leadership. His efforts have opened doors for future consulting partnerships, leaving a lasting impact on the program.
Elizabeth M. Creal
Liz has supported the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work and its students for more than 30 years as a field instructor. At the Fred Victor Centre and Casey House, she guided Master of Social Work students in supporting marginalized populations, including people living with HIV and clients at the end of life, while fostering skills in healthcare navigation and interdisciplinary care planning. Her contributions exemplify the vital role of field instructors in the education and development of social work students.
Mia Cvetkovik
Mia has been an exceptional volunteer with Rotman Commerce Career Services—dedicated to supporting students as they explore careers in financial services. In one notable example of her impact, she secured a site visit to Nasdaq for a group of Rotman students on a career trek to New York City, which provided them with valuable industry exposure. By going above and beyond for Rotman students, Mia is creating opportunities and having a significant impact on their professional growth.
Michael D. Dan
Dr. Dan is a deeply committed and exemplary volunteer whose contributions include leadership roles for both the Defy Gravity and Boundless campaigns, in addition to his leadership role co-chairing the Boundless campaign at Temerty Medicine. His sustained institutional support has helped shape U of T’s efforts around health equity and Indigenous well-being, including establishing, with his wife Amira, an institute focused on Indigenous health, as well as supporting research into global health, neurosurgery and brain tumours.
Herbert Dele Davies
Dr. Davies is a proud alumnus and volunteer with Temerty Medicine. A recipient of a Dean's Alumni Award in 2022, he has given back by sitting on the selection committee for that same award every year since. Dele has also mentored MD students and for four years, has offered a warm welcome to new medical students by penning inspirational, personalized notes. Dele’s commitment to the Temerty community and the student experience at the faculty has been invaluable.
Chantal Davis
Chantal has been a mentor in the Alumni-Students Mentorship Program since 2022. Her knowledge and insights regarding the legal field have been invaluable to her mentees. She has also provided students with advice on the pathways to law school and encouragement for their next steps. Chantal's willingness to share her experiences has benefitted many students and her interest in supporting Woodsworth students through the program and beyond has had a great impact on the community.
Jennifer L. Dekker
Jennifer’s diligent volunteer efforts helped the Faculty of Information navigate challenging times and continue to position the faculty for success. She became secretary for the alumni association during the pandemic and immediately set a new standard with contributions that included keeping members engaged in the face of chronic 'Zoom Fatigue'. Jennifer also took on the detailed and demanding task of ensuring the safe migration of digital records during a time of transition with a cloud storage provider.
Michael Do
Michael has been making a tremendous difference for the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy since 2018. Through the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience rotations, he plays an essential role in students’ education by providing hands-on workplace training. Michael’s participation in the PharmaSEE mentorship program has also fostered students’ professional growth while promoting alumni engagement among his peers. In addition, the Dan Faculty is grateful for his participation in the Changemakers series, sharing his experience with students and early-career alumni.
Eunice Dong
In 2017, Eunice began volunteering for the Later Life Learning program at Innis College in various roles. She later joined the program board as a member of the Donation Committee before stepping up once again to serve as chair. Eunice has been a fundraising dynamo for Innis, spearheading a pledge of $250,000 for the Innis College Renewal and Expansion project, that was fulfilled in 2024 thanks to her hard work and the generosity of the Later Life Learning community.
James Douketis
Dr. Douketis demonstrates sustained commitment to his alma mater and to the U of T community through his extensive volunteerism and generosity. He is a champion for students as a mentor in the MD Alumni Mentorship Program. James also helps celebrate and strengthen alumni connections through his contributions to the Dean's Alumni Awards. Across his volunteerism and generous personal giving, James is dedicated to nurturing future leaders and advancing U of T's legacy of excellence.

Carol A. Durno
Dr. Durno has made a big difference for students past, present and future at Temerty Medicine. Her years of dedicated volunteerism include serving as president of her MD class and strengthening alumni connections by organizing Reunion events and other initiatives. In addition, Carol has served on selection committees for the Dean's Alumni Awards and the Student Leadership Awards, while also providing encouragement and insight to incoming medical students through the Words of Wisdom program.
Oluwatobi Edun
As an engineering alumnus, Tobi has participated in a rich variety of volunteer activities at U of T. In 2020, he took part in a program whereby alumni send encouraging notes to current students. Since then, Tobi has stepped up in other ways including as a mentor to students, serving as a speaker and panellist at events, helping to judge competitions, and most recently, he joined U of T Engineering’s Faculty Council, a key governing body.
Marco P. Falco
An appellate litigator, Marco credits U of T for his success and has given back for more than 15 years to help students and young lawyers achieve their own success. Through the Faculties of Arts & Science and Law, Marco has provided skilled mentorship, judged moot trials, and been a major supporter of the Backpack to Briefcase program, which strengthens student and alumni connections. Marco also champions LGBTQ-plus and marginalized students at the University, ensuring they receive meaningful mentorship and recognition.
James K. Farge, CSB
After retiring from teaching, Father Farge has made a profound impact on U of T and St. Michael’s College through two decades of voluntary service and mentorship. As a senior fellow and Curator of Rare Books at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, his research and publications have advanced medieval and Renaissance studies. As a Basilian priest, he bridges faith and academia to foster ministry and values-driven dialogue. Perhaps his greatest contribution, however, is inspiring others with his humble dedication to students and colleagues.
Miriam Fong
Miriam has been a generous and committed mentor to undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Placements are integral to both programs, and those students who work with Miriam at Women’s College Hospital enthuse about her mentorship, clear guidance, and the many valuable techniques and skills they acquire under her supervision. Miriam’s exemplary student-centered approach and commitment have greatly enhanced the experiential learning landscape at the faculty.
Maria Gallo
Dr. Gallo’s many generous contributions to St. Michael’s College include serving as president of its alumni association since 2021. To this, she brings an extensive international background as an author, scholar and researcher with a particular interest in the alumni experience. Gracious with her time and expertise, Maria’s many contributions also include serving on the alumni association’s Reunion and Awards Nominations Committees and as a class rep since 2013, as well as presenting to U of T advancement staff.
Heather V. Gibson
Heather is a dedicated volunteer and donor who has been giving back to Trinity College for decades. A passionate advocate for the College, Heather is a member of the Corporation and an active Year Representative, working with others to coordinate Class of 73 Reunions. In this role, she helps to fundraise and motivates classmates to stay connected. Recently, Heather has taken on a new role as co-chair of the Gerald Larkin Society, which recognizes Trinity's planned giving donors.
Elizabeth Gilbert
Since 2018, Liz has been a driving force at St. Michael’s College as a volunteer and then president of the Friends of the Kelly Library. A longtime librarian herself, Liz applies her expertise and energy to enriching the Kelly Library as a cultural and intellectual hub. Notably, under her leadership, a revitalized book sale raised more than $50,000 in 2024. In so many ways, Liz upholds the spirit of generosity and intellectual engagement of the St. Mike's community.
Sheila Goldgrab
Sheila generously participates in the Political Science Senior Mentorship program, and has for over a decade, providing valuable career advice to third- and fourth-year students at a critical stage in their education. In a survey each year, her mentees consistently praise her enthusiasm and dedication. She goes above and beyond in her mentorships, and also mentors students across campus. Sheila’s commitment has made a lasting impact on political science students and greatly enhanced the effectiveness of the program.
Judy Goldring
Dr. Goldring is a proud alumna of Victoria University who has left an indelible mark on Vic and the wider U of T community. Serving nine years on Governing Council, three years as Vice-Chair and three years as Chair, Judy contributed to the oversight of academic, business, and student affairs. She also co-chaired Vic’s Defy Gravity campaign. Through her leadership and transformational philanthropy, Judy has helped shape the trajectory of U of T for generations to come.
Ramon Goomber
Ramon provides invaluable leadership as a dedicated volunteer for the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. He is a dedicated member of the Dean's Advisory Committee, and as part of the Alumni Awards Selection Committee, he helped establish the criteria and process for recognizing outstanding alumni. Ramon has also supported students as a speed mentor in the PharmaSEE Mentorship Program, a preceptor, a clinical instructor, an admissions interviewer, and promoted engagement among fellow alumni as one of the founding members of the Young Alumni Committee.
Danielle M. Grandmaison
Danielle has been a valuable support for the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work since 1993. As a field instructor with the Community Health Centre, she has overseen nearly two-dozen Master of Social Work students over the years, providing them the valuable mentorship and hands-on work experience needed to succeed in their studies and careers. Danielle’s tireless volunteer efforts also extend to counselling other field instructors, thus greatly strengthening the program itself and the profession of social work.
Muriel A. Heska
For the past 10 years, Muriel has made a lasting impact on the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy as ambassador for the Class of ’75. Among her many contributions, in 2015, she spearheaded fundraising to create the Class of ’75 Award, marking the 40th anniversary of the graduation of her cohort. Muriel also continues to lead reunion planning and strengthen alumni bonds in innumerable ways through her dedication, warmth and tireless efforts.
Stanley Y. Ho
Stan has been a tremendous, deeply engaged champion for Trinity College. His rigor and tough-minded questions add immense value to the Development, Building, Finance & Audit Committees, and to the Trinity College Board of Trustees and Corporation. Thoughtful and reliable, Stan is generous with his time, whether it is reviewing construction and business plans for the new Lawson Centre for Sustainability, reaching out to donors and prospects, or ensuring alumni stay connected.
Natalie Hoffmann
Dr. Hoffmann’s many contributions to Woodsworth College include serving on the board of directors for the alumni association for two years. As a member of the Alumni Café committee, Natalie helped plan thought-provoking lectures that engaged the Woodsworth community and beyond. Since completing her PhD within the Department of Cell & Systems Biology, she has volunteered with the Alumni-Students Mentorship Program, providing valuable insights and advice for students interested in the sciences.
Roy Hu
It is difficult to overstate Roy’s influence on men’s intramural hockey at U of T Scarborough. As captain and coach, he led the team to six championships in ten years, including four consecutive titles. His legacy has only grown since graduation—continuing as a coach, mentor, and program builder. Known for his friendly, down-to-earth approach, Roy not only helps players develop their game, but also offers guidance on careers, business, and life beyond the rink.
Guy P. Jarvis
Guy exemplifies Victoria College and its unwavering commitment to the success of our graduates. Through the Victoria Alumni Mentorship Program, he has worked with young alumni interested in careers in finance, consulting and entrepreneurship. His commitment also extends to meeting with past mentees as well as informational interviews with young alumni who may not even have been part of the formal program. In addition, Guy has stepped up with his support for the student mentoring event, Life After Vic.

Sandra L. Jarvis
Sandra has been a passionate supporter of students at the Rotman School of Management since 2020. As a mentor in Rotman’s LEADS Program, she has participated in mock-interviews, provided individual coaching and widely shared her experience and insights. As further evidence of her commitment, Sandra has remained in touch with many of her mentees long after they graduate, helping with role transitions, personal coaching and career advice. Through these powerful contributions, Sandra greatly enriches the Rotman community and positions our students and graduates for lifelong success.
Joelle Javier
Joelle has left an indelible mark on U of T Engineering and its students of the past, present and future. As an alumni assessor, Joelle has evaluated applications from aspiring students. For currents students, she has generously delivered guest lectures about her work in amusement park safety. For alumni, Joelle has rallied her peers for reunion events as a class ambassador and helped roll out a revamped awards program as chair of the Engineering Alumni Network Awards Committee.
Jemy Joseph
Dr. Joseph’s volunteerism is exemplary and remarkable for its depth of commitment as well as its breadth across the university. She has served on the Temerty Medicine Dean’s Alumni Award selection committee, on various Governing Council Committees, and on university scholarship committees. Most recently, Jemy served for six years on the UTAA Board of Directors. Her other valuable contributions include mentoring and delivering an inspiring convocation address for U of T Scarborough graduates. As a student, Jemy was a recipient of the university’s prestigious John Moss Scholarship.
Andrew L. Kidd
Andrew's enthusiasm for U of T Engineering has continued unabated since his graduation. His enthusiasm for students and the curriculum is evident in his volunteerism, which includes engaging with undergraduate students in seminar courses, helping select recipients for scholarships and research awards, and sharing his experience as a mentor. Andrew’s additional contributions include serving as an alumni representative on Faculty Council and providing opportunities for students by helping his firm organize recruitment events.
Kyoo Chung (Kevin) Kim
Kevin has been a dedicated volunteer with the University of Toronto Alumni Association Korea since 2009. Now president, Kevin has strengthened the alumni community in South Korea through events, alumni activity and social media outreach. While Kevin's official two-year term ended last year, he continues to provide guidance, leadership and continuity as president and is an inspirational figure for the association, for U of T and for all our alumni in South Korea.
Joel M. Kumove
For over a decade, Joel has returned each autumn as a dedicated volunteer mentor in the Political Science Mentorship Program and others on campus. Known for his energy, approachability, and insightful, constructive feedback, he consistently supports mentees in reaching their goals. One recent mentee noted: “Joel was a passionate and enthusiastic mentor... I’m glad I decided to apply for the program.” He remains engaged beyond the program, maintaining contact with mentees and regularly attending program nights and campus events.
Eva Lau
Eva has contributed greatly to U of T and its thriving innovation ecosystem. A prominent venture capitalist, Eva has mentored hundreds of student-entrepreneurs at the Rotman School’s Creative Destruction Lab and The Hatchery at U of T Engineering. She has also generously shared her expertise as a volunteer, guest speaker and panellist for Massey College, Rotman and Engineering. More broadly, Eva supports the university’s top priorities as a member of the Defy Gravity Campaign Steering Committee.
Veronica Cheryl Lee
Dr. Lee is a dedicated champion for the 1973 graduating class of U of T Dentistry. Her contributions include organizing reunions and mobilizing class giving, among many other initiatives that have forged lasting bonds among her peers and focussed their support to advance the profession of dentistry. While many decades have passed since graduation, Cheryl’s passion for fostering community keeps her cohort engaged and united and builds connections across generations at U of T Dentistry.
Michael O. Lewis
Michael is a dynamic champion for Innis College, promoting opportunity and equity through his extensive volunteer activities. These include participating in scholarship meetings to support student success as well as helping select recipients for the prestigious Lesra Martin Changemaker Award. Michael’s impact at Innis also includes advocating for increased scholarship support for Black students as well as his contribution to the college magazine, in which he discussed the importance of combating anti-Black racism in Canada.
Gabriella Luongo
Since graduating in 2019, Gabriella has been an outstanding member of the alumni community at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Through the Public Health Alumni Association, Gabriella led and organized several alumni events and served as a co-chair of the Public Health Sciences Mentorship Program, in which she also continues to participate as a mentor. Gabriella's thoughtfulness, enthusiasm, organization, and reliability have enriched the lives of many Dalla Lana students and alumni.
Sanjay Malaviya
Sanjay has been a diligent and generous champion for the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering for over ten years. He has made major contributions to the evolution of engineering leadership education, which integrates complementary skillsets in leadership, communications, business, entrepreneurship and other areas. To this, Sanjay has contributed countless hours and wise counsel, as well as significant financial support, and has served as a model of engineering leadership through his personal, inspiring example.
Pino Mancina
Pino has played an integral part in shaping the Engineering Alumni Applicant Assessor program. Now in its 11th year, the program engages engineering alumni to help assess applicants to the undergraduate program. Pino has volunteered for eight years, dedicating countless hours to helping improve the program, with astute, ongoing feedback that has enhanced the admissions assessment process for U of T Engineering as well as the volunteer experience that the program provides for alumni.
M.G. Venkatesh Mannar
Dr. Mannar has been a dedicated supporter of the Department of Chemical Engineering for some 30 years. In his current role as Adjunct Professor, he mentors students and regularly participates in research meetings and thesis committees. He also promotes the department’s research findings to his high-profile international network. Further, Dr. Mannar has been integral to U of T’s work in fortifying salt with iodine, iron, vitamins and zinc helping reduce anemia and a range of health disorders in women and children worldwide. Other contributions include serving on the board of advisors of the Centre for Global Engineering.
Maxim Medvedev
Max has been a dedicated mentor in the Rotman Commerce Alumni Mentorship Program since 2020, offering thoughtful guidance and support to students as they prepare to launch their careers. His mentees speak to the meaningful impact he has had on their professional development, crediting his advice, encouragement, and insights as instrumental in shaping their career paths. His commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders is both generous and deeply impactful.
Madeleine H. Milne
Since 2020 as a Bachelor of Science student, Madeleine has volunteered with the U of T Trash Team, which seeks to increase literacy around waste and reduce plastic pollution. As an alumna, Madeleine continues to volunteer, leading and representing the Trash Team at community events across Ontario. This includes delivering engaging presentations, helping to train new volunteers, and even contributing her skills as an illustrator to help explain the group’s work and goals.
Katie Moriarty
With over 15 years of international experience in financial services, Katie brings tremendous strategic insight and fiduciary expertise to her volunteer leadership at St. Michael’s College. Since 2019, she has served with distinction as a member of St. Mike’s Collegium and chair of the Finance and Audit Committee since 2022. Though not an USMC alumna, Katie is a dedicated advocate, championing St. Mike’s mission while strengthening financial oversight, resource planning, and stewardship during a period of institutional growth and change.
Rick Morris
Rick’s passion for helping others to succeed has been a consistent theme since his days attending the Rotman School of Management. While pursuing his MBA, Rick was a member of Rotman’s Impact Consulting Group—a student-led consulting firm that he now supports as chair of the Advisory Board. In this capacity—and building on his senior experience in financial services—Rick provides valuable guidance, insight and support to each cohort of MBA students that lead the group.
Howard Ovens
For over four decades, Dr. Ovens has made a lasting impact on the Temerty Faculty of Medicine through his generous volunteer efforts. As representative for the MD Class of 1978, Howard’s contributions include helping to organize nine class reunions, including its 45th Reunion and supporting fundraising efforts. Howard has also mentored MD students and contributed to the Words of Wisdom initiative. Through these and many other acts of service, he exemplifies the ideals of alumni leadership, service and dedication.

Daniel Parmar
Captain Dr. Parmar served for three years as a mentor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, helping guide graduate students interested in professional health education. In his role as an Operational Flight Surgeon and General Duty Medical Officer for the Canadian Armed Forces, Dr. Parmar experienced tremendous demands during the pandemic. Nonetheless, in a reflection of his commitment to OISE, he joined the OISE Alumni Association during the outset of the crisis, providing valuable support that continues with his participation in quarterly meetings.
Hilary M. Pearson
With her expertise in philanthropy, policy, and the charitable sector, Dr. Pearson lent tremendous expertise to the Living Trinity Campaign Cabinet. Over five years, she readily shared her vast knowledge and experience through student mentorship and with staff at Trinity and across U of T. In addition, with her husband, Michael Sabia, she sponsored the Pearson-Sabia Distinguished Visitor in International Relations and named a seminar room in the Lawson Centre for Sustainability.
Megan Pearson
Dr. Pearson’s exceptional leadership has helped define and elevate the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School, which is part of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. As president of the Parents’ Association, Megan has worked closely with school administration to increase transparency, enhance parent engagement, and champion initiatives that reflect and support the school's socio-economic diversity. Her lasting impact on the Jackman Institute community has set a strong foundation for parent involvement and advocacy.
Richard D. Phillips
Richard is a dedicated volunteer and generous supporter of U of T. His volunteer roles include chair of the Faculty of Music Advisory Council since 2018, and member of U of T’s Defy Gravity Steering Committee since 2021. Richard’s passionate advocacy for the arts also extends to supporting specific initiatives across the Faculties of Music and of Arts & Science, including the Richard Phillips Baroque Oratorio Fund and the Grosse Research Trust.
Sam J. Pollock
Since 2022, Sam has been a co-chair of the Reasons for Hope Gala at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. In this role, he has leveraged his personal and business relationships to support the Department of Psychiatry, including his key role over the past three years in well over $3 million to support youth mental health. Ultimately, Sam’s leadership has supported new research and catalyzed innovative ideas that improve care for those living with mental illness.
Pamela Ritchie Popoff and S. Steve Popoff
Steve and Pam met at Trinity and have been giving back to the college ever since. As representatives for the Class of 1980, they have led Reunion fundraising and outreach activities, including the launch of a bursary that has supported dozens of students. In addition, Steve and Pam have organized many class socials and Reunion gatherings. Pam and Steve are both members of Trinity College's Development Committee while Steve has also contributed a remarkable twelve years of service as a member of the Trinity College Corporation.
Anushree Rai
Anushree has been a dedicated mentor and volunteer at Victoria University. Through the Victoria Alumni Mentorship and Vic Ready Programs, she has worked with students and young alumni seeking to further their education and forge new career paths in public health. Anushree has also generously shared her expertise and experience in one-on-one interviews with aspiring public health professionals and is a frequent presenter at Vic's annual "Career Pathways in Healthcare" panel discussion.
Nishandi Rajendran
Nisha has long been a champion for U of T alumni in London, England, one of the university’s most important alumni communities. As a Regional Alumni Representative, Nisha keeps connections strong among UK alumni and with their alma mater, organizing fun and engaging events, and keeping graduates informed about U of T. Nisha’s tireless energy, positivity and work ethic are a boon for alumni and raise the university’s profile in a key global market.
Vasudev 'Vas' Rao
Vas has served Victoria University's Board of Regents for two terms as chair of the Finance & Audit committee and Board Treasurer. As a committed volunteer, he stayed an additional year beyond his last term to assist with the transition to a new chair. Vas is thorough in his communication, articulate and respectful of all, and his expertise has been indispensable for helping the administration achieve its highest aspirations while adhering to rigorous standards of governance.
Mark Richardson
Mark is a community partner and expert mentor in the Multidisciplinary Urban Capstone Project (MUCP), delivered through U of T’s School of Cities. The course attracts final-year undergraduate students from all disciplines to address real-world urban challenges. Since 2021, Mark has mentored six student teams in the MUCP program, skillfully guiding them toward solutions and providing valuable career advice. Mark has also mentored graduate students in Geography and Planning. Though not an alumnus, Mark's is profoundly committed to the project and to city-building and youth mentorship more broadly.
Cassandra Rosen
Cassie inspires undergraduate engineering students to apply their skills to make a positive impact. As a guest speaker and career interviewee, she has motivated hundreds of students to consider non-traditional career paths by sharing her journey from engineering graduate to government energy policy advisor. She has also given back to the engineering community through five years of involvement in the Engineering Alumni Mentorship Program, participating in the letter-writing campaign for newly admitted students, and reviewing Engineering Science Research Opportunities Program applications.
Glen W.B. Sharpe
Dr. Sharpe is a highly dedicated mentor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He has served in the OISE Mentorship Program since 2020, including one year serving as a mentor coach, working with peers to improve their mentoring skills. While he has resumed directly mentoring students, Glen continues to coach on an ad hoc basis. Beyond mentorship, Glen is also an excellent online ambassador for OISE, amplifying social media content and promoting events and other initiatives.
Hyunjung Shin
Dr. Shin has been a highly engaged mentor with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education for seven years. In 2023, her involvement deepened as she joined OISE’s alumni association and became Chapter Chair for Korea, helping engage Korean teachers/educators and alumni on behalf of the Institute. Hyunjung’s other valuable contributions include organizing a Korean teacher delegation to visit OISE and representing the institute in Seoul at a president’s reception and presentation. She also delivered a webinar for the Ten Thousand Coffees platform on Compassionate Leadership in an Uncertain Time.
Janina Shuster
Janina has provided dedicated leadership to the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School, which is part of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. For seven years as a member and Chairperson of the Daycare Board, Janina ensured a nurturing and high-quality environment for children and families. She skillfully guided the board through key transitions, prioritizing the well-being and development of every child, and she has built a legacy of excellence in early childhood education.
Michelle M. Simmons
Michelle is a tireless volunteer for the Speech-Language Pathology program at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. As co-president of the program’s alumni association, Michelle’s contributions include full-cycle planning of the annual fall graduation ceremony, the biennial J.F. Walker Lecture Series alumni event, and the annual Speech-Language Pathology Alumni Newsletter. Alongside her co-president, Michelle's efforts have strengthened the bonds among graduates of the program and shone a spotlight on the rehabilitation sector and its importance.
Mackenzie G. Snell
Volunteers like Mackenzie are a driving force at Hart House Theatre. For five years, she has been a key administrator for its Festival of Dance—the country’s largest university dance festival, featuring 60 dance pieces and 200 performers. Mackenzie has had a transformative impact, professionalizing the festival and enabling it to expand to a fall showcase. Through her tireless efforts, Mackenzie has become a valuable bridge between the festival and U of T’s dance community.

Anthony Morra
In 2010, Anthony Cicirello and Anthony Morra co-founded Soccer Day in Scarborough—a vibrant annual tradition that brings together alumni, students, and families for a celebration of sport, community, and Scarborough pride. The event features a spirited showdown between the U of T Scarborough and U of T Mississauga soccer teams, followed by a co-ed alumni match that reunites former players on the field. Over 14 years, Soccer Day has welcomed more than 800 participants, becoming a signature event that not only strengthens connections but also helps generate financial support for current student-athletes. It stands as a powerful example of how grassroots leadership can build lasting community impact.
George Steiner
Dr. Steiner has generously dedicated his time to Later Life Learning, a non-profit educational program for older adults at Innis College. Over the past four years, in progressive roles as a volunteer, committee member, vice-president, and now president, George has deepened the remarkable 40-year relationship between Innis and the program. Also under his leadership, the Later Life Learning community came together to fund scholarships for Innis students, further strengthening the special ties between program and college.

More broadly, her long-standing commitment continues to elevate the program, fostering a winning culture of growth and achievement.

Tom Stevens has made a lasting impact on the U of T rowing community through his unwavering dedication as a volunteer assistant coach. With a focus on mentorship, skill development, and team culture, Tom has helped student-athletes reach new heights both on and off the water. For over four years, Greg has been a vital supporter of the Renewal and Expansion Campaign at Innis College. An early champion for this transformational project, Greg’s stalwart efforts include serving as a member of the campaign cabinet and his tireless outreach to the community. Dr. Tassonyi is a long-time, dedicated volunteer who is always ready to go the extra mile for Trinity College. His extensive contributions include serving on Senate for nine years, as well as on Corporation, and as a representative for the Class of ’73. Manda Vrkljan
Manda has supported the Faculty of Information in demanding and increasingly senior roles as part of its alumni association. Over six years, these have included vice-president and then president of the alumni association, as well as her work on the social committee, including serving as chair. Whether it’s mentoring students and colleagues, organizing events, chairing meetings, partnering with faculty members or many other acts of leadership, Manda’s contributions have made a tremendous difference for the Faculty of Information.

Megha has provided dedicated service since 2019 as a member of the U of T Mississauga Alumni Association board. Among her many contributions in this demanding role, Megha has been a major support in realizing UTM’s alumni engagement strategies in pursuit of its Defy Gravity goals. Megha’s commitment to UTM also extends to providing guidance and encouragement to students as an alumni mentor, and as a panelist speaking to students and recent alumni interested in law careers.

Alyssa has had a tremendous impact as a Pro Bono Lawyer Supervisor with the Family Justice Centre, affiliated with the Faculty of Law. The students she mentors and supervises consistently praise her patience and dedication to their learning, as well as the knowledge, skills and values that she instills. Through her many contributions, Alyssa has helped shape the Family Justice Centre, supported low-income clients, and nurtured talented, compassionate law students who are a credit to the profession.
Victor W. Wong
Victor has contributed wisdom, warmth and dedication to both students and alumni at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. Since 2018, he has guided students one-on-one and in speed mentoring events as part of the PharmaSEE mentorship program. Victor also shares his experience and expertise with early-career pharmacy alumni as part of the Changemakers series. Victor's enthusiasm and commitment reverberate across the Leslie Dan Faculty, helping to shape it as a uniquely supportive learning environment.
Jingya Xuan
May is a dedicated volunteer for Woodsworth College as a board member for the alumni association. Among her many contributions, she has served on several sub-committees, including the influential Nominating and Governance Committee, which helps oversee the selection and appointment of directors. May has also planned topical and engaging Alumni Café lectures. These fun and fascinating talks introduce generations of college grads to the cutting-edge ideas of leading Woodsworth scholars.

Dr. Yanagawa has had a tremendous impact on the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, as part of its Words of Wisdom and Diversity Mentorship programs. Dr. Yip has shown exceptional dedication to the Temerty Faculty of Medicine through her ongoing mentorship, leadership, and generous philanthropic support, which includes creation of the Dr. Kathy Yip Award in Nuclear Medicine. Since graduating from the Rotman School of Management, Kevin Yoon has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the Rotman community. As an ambassador for Career Services, Kevin has played a pivotal role providing students with critical industry insights, expanding their professional networks, and helping them secure meaningful roles. Kevin has engaged in many Careers events, and encourages colleagues to attend, enriching the school’s corporate relations programs, and raising Rotman's profile.
Jun Yuan
Dr. Yuan brings deep industry experience to the Master of Financial Risk Management program at the Rotman School of Management. As part of its advisory board, Jun helps ensure the program’s curriculum aligns with evolving industry needs and he is also a key contributor to the pivotal industry-project course, overseeing five projects each year. In another example of his commitment to the program, Jun spearheaded a talent pipeline initiative, which assists high-performing students in gaining full-time roles.
Timothy S. Zeng
Tim’s commitment to students and fellow alumni at U of T Engineering is extraordinary. Since 2018, he has advised countless students as part of the Alumni Mentorship Program, offering valuable guidance through one-on-one and speed mentoring. Tim has also made critical contributions as an admissions assessor, reviewing student applications with a view to shaping a diverse, high-achieving class of future engineers. Tim’s unwavering dedication and far-reaching contributions have left an indelible mark on the Skule community.
