Lines, Pattern, Action brings together the contemporary practices of five Pakistani-Canadian artists engaging with pressing global questions around gender, war, migration, climate resilience, and ecology.
This landmark exhibition marks the first time an all-Muslim artist showcase has been featured at the University of Toronto.
All five artists studied at the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan (NCA). Their art practice builds upon the rigorous art training of the NCA and the challenges of its colonial legacies to reimagine the traditional South Asian art practices for a universal viewer.
A centrepiece of the evening, the panel discussion will bring together all five exhibiting artists in dialogue, moderated by curator Prof. Ruba Kana’an. Together, the artists will explore the intersections of visual art, cultural memory, and political urgency across geographies.
Opening remarks and panel discussion: 6–7 p.m.
Exhibition viewing and reception continue until 8:30 p.m.
