Professor Meric S. Gertler
President, University of Toronto

cordially invites you to a reception and thought-provoking presentation on

Why artificial intelligence may be the key to speeding up the development of clean energy – and how Canada and Mexico are leading the way

by

Professor Alán Aspuru-Guzik, Professor of Chemistry and of Computer Science

in dialogue with Professor Ted Sargent, Vice-President International and Professor of Engineering

Join two global leaders in clean-energy research and innovation, who are advancing discoveries in areas of critical interest to Canada, Mexico and the global community.

Professor Alán Aspuru-Guzik is a collaborator of Engineering Professor Ted Sargent, who, with others, are leaders in addressing the challenge of developing clean energy for the future.  These two  researchers are bringing together a truly interdisciplinary approach addressing the challenge of clean energy, as they explore how artificial intelligence and machine learning can accelerate our development of critically needed solutions to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

Mexican-born Professor Aspuru-Guzik has recently been recruited to the University of Toronto where he will take up a prestigious Canada 150 Chair in Theoretical and Quantum Chemistry as well as join the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, after spending the last 12 years leading a theoretical physical chemistry group at Harvard University.

Professor Sargent’s research interests cover many areas of nanotechnology and its application to communications and computing, medicine, and tapping new energy sources.  Professor Sargent is also Vice-President, International for the University and as such is leading U of T’s internationalization efforts.

Professor Aspuru-Guzik will give a talk on this exciting and important area of research and then join in discussion with Professor Sargent on why he has recently decided to move to the University of Toronto.

Find out what makes the University of Toronto one of the most dynamic places to do research in the world.
