Justice Rita J. Maxwell - A.B. (Harvard College), JD (University of Toronto Faculty of Law), LLM (Georgetown Law School).

Justice Maxwell started her career in civil litigation before specializing in criminal litigation. She acted as an Assistant Crown Attorney in Toronto for many years prosecuting serious crimes of violence and crimes involving vulnerable persons. From 2015-2017, she acted as Legal Counsel to the Court of Appeal for Ontario. She also worked as a Visiting Professional at the International Criminal Court in the Hague. Justice Maxwell was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice in 2017 and the Superior Court of Justice in 2021.

In addition to teaching legal ethics, Justice Maxwell teaches criminal law, evidence law, and trial advocacy at various law schools.
