U of T archeologists in Turkey are excited about their recent discovery: a 3,000-year-old stone lion in full roar.

The Tayinat Archeological Project, led by Timothy Harrison, a professor in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations, has unearthed the remains of a monumental gate complex.

Among the sculptures on the gate, it says, is a “magnificently carved lion,” 1.3 metres tall and 1.6 metres wide.
