Alumni: Giving U of T more reasons to be proud

In Memoriam: Grace Bayliss

The university community was saddened to learn of the passing of Ms. Grace Bayliss (WDW, BA 1988) on August 11, 2014. Ms. Bayliss was an active participant in the Victoria, BC U of T alumni group for over two decades and served as its President for a number of years. Her good friend, Carl Hennigar, remembers: “Grace was very proud of her connection to the University of Toronto. After she served in the Canadian Navy in the Second World War, she actually didn’t believe she had the ‘brain power’ to go to university. However, after her two children were born, she chose to enrol at Woodsworth College, where she majored in literary studies and was delighted to graduate at the age of 65.”

A vibrant personality and an inspiring figure, Ms. Bayliss will be fondly remembered for her dedication to and her enthusiasm for the University of Toronto.
